 >  Material Hoist Raxtar RX 500B
Introduction

Material hoists by Dura Vermeer Materieel are used for the vertical transport of building materials. These are type 500 B material hoists from the Raxtar brand. Past experience shows that the most common accidents are related to falling from heights, limbs getting crushed or getting hit by falling objects. In many cases these accidents are caused by faults in the installation or incorrect use of the construction hoist.

Risks > Basic points of departure

The manufacturer included the following instructions in the user manual that are important to be able to deploy the material hoist safely. All users must observe these instructions!

Maximum loading capacity is 500kg. In case of heavier loads, the material hoist will not work.

Only open the doors of the ground enclosure when the hoist platform has reached standstill in the ground enclosure.

Sliding gates on the scaffolding are intended for the safety of the persons on the scaffolding and the user of the material hoist. The sliding gates are part of the scaffolding's outer railing and thus eliminate the risk of falling.

If a door of the ground enclosure or a sliding gate on the scaffolding is open, the material hoist will not move or come to a standstill immediately.

The loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform is equipped with handrails. The fully opened loading ramp falls on the scaffolding floor, creating a safe access from the scaffolding to the hoist platform.

Transportation of material that protrudes over the edge of the material hoist platform is prohibited. The hoist should always be able to move freely along the scaffolding.

Secure materials, so that they cannot shift during the ride. Self-driving equipment must be wheeled into the material hoist manually.

Do not use a free-standing material hoist in winds exceeding force 6. In case of an anchored material hoist, do not use it in winds exceeding force 8 or higher.

Measures > What can you easily check every day?

A material/construction hoist is intensively used by many persons. It is always possible that an irregularity occurs that could lead to a risk. By always checking the most important points on a daily basis prior to first use, we can help each other to prevent accidents!

  • Are there no visible damages to the ground enclosure, hoist platform, mast, anchoring, cabling?
  • Are the sliding gates on the scaffolding layers not damaged?
  • Are there no obstacles in the path of the hoist platform?
  • Is the underpinning of the ground enclosure still in a good condition?
  • Are all emergency stop switches and limit switches undamaged?
  • On each floor, does the full length of the hoist platform's loading/unloading ramp fall on the scaffolding floor with an overlap of approximately 5 cm?
  • Are all sliding gate and/or door locks working correctly? (both mechanical and electrical). Is the power cable guide on the mast undamaged and is the cable running freely?

In case of a fault or doubts concerning the safe operation of the material hoist, immediately inform the foreman!

Risks > Safe use of the material hoist

A material hoist could lead to risks in case of conscious or unconscious incorrect use. The following instructions must be observed in order to guarantee safe use.

If you are not familiar with the operation of the construction hoist, ask for directions first. Never use the construction hoist without any directions!
The minimum age of operating personnel is18 years.
Transportation of persons is strictly prohibited.
To prevent the risk of falling, all work on the cabin's loading/unloading ramp should always be done standing on the scaffolding behind the sliding gate.
When calling the hoist > From behind the sliding gate, open the loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform. Then open the sliding gate on the scaffolding.
When sending the hoist > First close the sliding gate and close the loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform while standing behind the sliding gate.

Any other procedure could lead to life-threatening situations!

Measures > Operating the material hoist < Ground enclosure >
  1. Open the doors of the ground enclosure and lower the ramp.
  2. Place the material to be transported on the hoist platform.
  3. Close the ramp and the doors of the ground enclosure.
  4. Select the required floor on the control panel. For the 2nd floor, press 2.
  5. The material hoist will now go to the selected floor after closing the cabin door.
  6. In order to call the material hoist down to the ground floor, press 0
Measures > Operating the material hoist < Floor >

A hoist calling box is placed on each floor.

  1. If the material hoist is not on the floor, press the green button on the hoist calling box on the floor in order to call the material hoist to the floor.
  2. If the material hoist is already on the floor, the hoist calling button changes into a hoist sending button in order to send the material hoist back to the ground floor.

Caution. After pressing, the platform will depart after 5 sec.

Measures > > Using the sliding gate

The sliding gate on the scaffolding is the most important device to prevent the risk of falling when using the material hoist. Basic safety rule is that the sliding gate may only be opened or closed when the loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform is resting on the scaffolding. For this purpose, a safety system has been installed, which ensures that the sliding gate can only be opened after the loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform has been opened.

  1. To open the sliding gate, move the black button upwards and open the sliding gate.
  2. The sliding gate has been closed correctly when the black button falls back in the lock.

Measures > Unloading the hoist platform

Safely unloading the hoist platform on a higher floor is done as follows:

  1. Always stand behind the sliding gate.
  2. Unlock the loading ramp
  3. Take hold of the handle and fold down the loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform
  4. Make sure the full length of the loading ramp rests on the scaffolding.
  5. Open the sliding gate, the hoist platform can now be accessed safely.
Measures > Sending the hoist platform

Safely sending the hoist platform from a higher floor is done as follows:

  1. Make sure you are behind the sliding gate on the scaffolding after loading/unloading the hoist platform.
  2. Take hold of the handle and fold up the loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform until it reaches the lock.
  3. Check that the lock is closed correctly.
  4. Check that no materials are protruding from the hoist platform.
  5. The hoist platform can now be sent off safely.

Measures > Floor command function < after approval foreman >

The hoist is equipped with a so-called floor command function. This makes it possible to command the hoist to move from floor to floor from the hoist platform. When this function is activated, its operation is as follows:

  1. Loading the hoist platform
  2. The required floor can be selected by means of the up and down buttons.
  3. When the chosen floor is confirmed with the red button, this will be the new destination of the hoist.
  4. Step back on the scaffolding and close the sliding gate so that it falls in the lock.
  5. Close the loading/unloading ramp of the hoist platform and check the lock.
  6. Press the call button. The hoist will be sent to the selected floor.

From the ground floor, the hoist will depart once all doors and closing gates have been closed. Selecting a floor on the hoist platform has priority over the hoist calling boxes and the operating panel.
